A Very Bittersweet Night for SNC

Posted by Ryan
August 29, 2010

Yes, it's 3:24 in the AM.  Yes, Mike and I are driving home for 11 hours tomorrow.  Yes, we promised each other we'd leave no later than 9:30.  Yes, I'm getting room service breakfast one last time at 8.  Yes, we just hung out altogether for one last hurrah at Harrah's tonight and we will feel the lack of sleep tomorrow.  Yes, it's all going to be worth it.

"Thank you" doesn't cut it.  Saying we appreciate the support our fans show us on a constant basis doesn't cut it.  Being able to give a little of our time back to you all on our last day in town to have some laughs together doesn't begin to scratch the surface of how much we are indebted to you, the person reading this, for giving us the opportunity to share our common love of performing with you.  This summer run in Atlantic City wouldn't have happened if not for you, coming out with your families and friends to spend time listening to us in your home towns.  Without a crowd of folks such as yourselves to sing for, we're just a bunch of college buddies who enjoy singing without a band (ha!).  With you guys in front of us, though, night after night, we are a bunch of guys who are beyond blessed to get to do what it is we do.  Furthermore, our families and loved ones back home have sacrificed so much so we can perform for you and they deserve more of your praise than we ever could ask for...and you all even go so far as to personally reach out and thank them on here, on Facebook, etc.  Seriously, Randy hit it on the head with the caption to his last two photos on the main page, our fans ROCK.

Don't get me wrong...I can't WAIT to be home.  Good grief, if I have to walk through that smoky hallway one more time to get to the theater, I may snap.  Enough of that, though; let's focus on the fact that we just crushed 40 shows of fun music for people who paid good money to spend their time with us; and how we were so fortunate to have done so.  Give us a couple weeks to rest up, do our respective thing, reflect a bit, and realize all over again why we're doing this crazy, completely unorthodox path of a career, and we'll be seeing you soon enough.  Forgive us if we're a little quiet on the site while we're home.  Sometimes doing absolutely nothing means absolutely everything, especially when we're away from home for as much of the year as we are...

I said it in my intro tonight onstage; tonight is a point in our lives that we will remember always.  Our founder, director, friend, and brother Dan performed his last show with SNC.  Those of you who were there to witness the love we have for him and that he has for us will forever be a part of that communal memory.  For that, on our last evening in Atlantic City, I am grateful and will remain so for a long, long time.

Cobra, we wish you only the best and couldn't be more proud to carry on the legacy you created nearly 15 years ago.  May God bless you in your new endeavors, buddy, and may He continue to bless what you started in SNC!  (Let the well wishes commence on the comments wall....now!)

Good night, everyone, and thank you as always for your support of Straight No Chaser.  Send prayers all of our ways tomorrow, please, as we travel home.  Until next time...

Dan, I just can't imagine SNC without Dan Ponce. Who will write the very clever and entertaining numbers the group does so well? Who will make sure everyone is on key and keeping the beat?
You were so wise to pull the guys together one more time and create a music sensation. I'll miss seeing you with them and can only hope and pray that your new gig gives you the opportunity to be as creative and charming as you are with SNC. OK, I know that every member of SNC is creative and charming, but you started it for those of us who just can't survive without the music I can only describe as honest and pure. All good wishes to you and your fiancee for a blessed and happy future. And...let us know how you're doing!

SNC...wanted so much to see one of the A.C. performances. However, my job was eliminated (worked for NJ State..owwww). Upswing: I can listen to SNC cd's as I wrap pennies.

Dan...you're killing me over here in Morris County. You will be missed like a spoke in a wheel.

Don...if your video is any indication of the future, I suspect with these guys, you are going to be blushing a lot ;-) Break a leg Don and Welcome.

    SNC -- Go Home!

Dan, I am so sorry to hear that you are leaving the group. What a loss for SNC and for all of the fans. We will all miss your great smile, amazing talent, and the cohesiveness you created among the Amazing Ten!!

We will welcome Don warmly and wish you Godspeed in your upcoming life journey.

Best wishes to both of you from an Indiana girl in Atlanta!

All the best, Dan, and thank you for the tremendous legacy you're leaving us.

Wow...what an amazing journey this has been and I'm sure will continue to be for you guys!! And I think my favorite part of watching this whole experience is every time I hear or see any interview w/ any of you I knew from SH at IU...y'all haven't changed one bit!! You are the same wonderfully talented and funny guys you were back then! And Dan...wow...you orchestrated the perfect group...in voice, personality, chemistry, etc...a feat that hasn't been matched since. Its hard to imagine you not being up there w/ the group. Thank you so much for "getting your buddies together...the ones you knew could sing." ;-)...way back then. You have given us a gift.
Hope to see y'all in Raleigh in Dec. Enjoy your time off!!! Much love~

Dan, it has been an absolute pleasure to listen to you and the guys make such wonderful music the past few years. I truly appreciate the fact that you started this group and made this all possible with your dream, which has obviously exceeded all expectations. Congrats on your soon-to-be marriage, and good luck with going back into the reporters life.
    Thanks for the memories,
    Aaron

I was fortunate to be able to attend the August 13th show at Harrah's. What amazing musicians you all are! Dan will be missed and I wish him the best for the future. And welcome Don! I look forward to attending another one of your performances...maybe during your tour through PA. I even have you guys on my cell phone!!!!!!

I was at the final show at Harrah's and experienced the good-bye to Dan Ponce. I wish him the best in his future endeavors and hope that he continues to arrange for the group as his is an amazing talent. It was a great show and I look forward to seeing SNC in Texas and Arizona before the year is out. Don't stop the music!!!

This former Singing Hoosier has been a fan for many years and is looking forward to seeing his first live performance of SNC in Colorado next month. Thanks for sharing your talent, time, and energy. Your music and teamwork are awesome.

Ryan, this blog was very well written, as usual.

I was lucky enough to be at the show and it was amazing! I was also at the show on opening night. It was fabulous then but closing night was just so great. It was so much fun, very high energy, and very emotionally draining. I was literally crying when Dan announced it was his last show, even though I had already known that (which is the reason I finally decided to purchase tickets for the last show instead of a different show). The encore was simply amazing. The audience members could see how much love Dan has for all of you and the group and how much love you all have for Dan as well.

To Dan, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Without you, Straight No Chaser would not exist. When I go out for my 21st birthday tonight I am drinking to all of Straight No Chaser. And, as Ryan suggested, I will be drinking Straight No Chaser. Thank you all for an amazing run at Harrah's. I look forward to seeing the group again in the fall.

To the families of these talented guys, thank you so much for letting them share their talents with everyone. Without supportive families, these guys would not be able to do what they do. Thank you for giving up your precious time with them so they can sing for all of us fans.

To anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of meeting these guys, you really need to get to a show. The meet and greets after the shows are so great. The guys are all so nice and after awhile they start to remember you. I was at three shows this year. After the second show, one of the guys was like "hey I remember you" and actually struck up a conversation with me. At the third show at least half of the guys said they remembered meeting me before. These guys are so genuine, so sincere. They take the time to get to know the fans and it's just amazing. I cannot wait for another show!

So sorry I missed your show on the last night. We loved it and wanted to come back but couldn't do it. Thank you so much for bringing your talents to Atlantic City. You brightened what was otherwise a tough summer for this area.

I'm so sorry to hear Dan is leaving but of course we wish you the best.

Rest up guys. You've got a tough 72 city tour ahead and my husband and I have had our tickets for the Buffalo show for more than a week already! We just found out your coming back to AC for Thanksgiving weekend and we're getting tickets for that too! (PLEASE do the Christmas Can Can!!!!)

Let us all know what we can do to help you continue to get press so more people know you and experience your wonderful voices and wonderful personalities. If there's anyway we can help champion your cause to get a Grammy nomination you know we're on it!!!

Can't wait to see you in November.
