New 4th of July Song and Performances

June 29, 2010

Hey everyone!

We have got a TON of stuff going on this 4th of July weekend that we hope you’ll be a part of!

First of all – we are going to be appearing live on Weekend Today this Sunday, July 4th at 8am on NBC! (This is the Weekend Edition of The Today Show.) We will be performing ‘America the Beautiful’ in honor of the holiday, and you can download our recorded version of this song right now to prepare. Just download your copy and add it to your 4th of July playlist.

Then make sure to stay on NBC later that night, and you’ll hear us performing “Alexander’s Ragtime Band” as part of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks! The amazing display starts at 9pm and we are honored to be a part of it.

And finally – even better than all of this – you can come see us LIVE in Atlantic City! Our 2-month Harrah’s Resort residency starts this Friday, July 2nd. The show is called ‘Songs of the Decades... With a Twist,’ and will include a lot of songs that you have not heard performed by us before. Why not get away for the weekend and come join us? All of the Atlantic City dates, as well as our fall tour dates, are listed here. And if you are like us and have always dreamed of seeing our faces projected over 500 feet tall, just click here to get your wish. :)

Happy 4th of July!

To those of you looking for a free SNC music download, Deke Sharon posted the following on Facebook:
"How about a free download of Alexander's Ragtime Band (performed by Straight No Chaser, my arrangement) to celebrate the land of the free?"

Check LOCAL listings (TVguide.com) - unfortunately it appears Cleveland won't get the Today show (or local news) Sunday morning, because 2 hours of cartoons that usually air at a later time are more important it seems.

    Thanks, Julie!

    Well said, SheriS.

And, there was no pun intended with my "twist" comment below, but it kinda works!

Reminder for all those upset about having to pay for the download. At the news conference when SNC announced they would be appearing at Harrahs, they said the profits from Front Row sales was going to fund music programs in the schools in the area of Harrah's to help them reinstate the music programs that were cut! The guys do a lot for others and have done a lot for their fans. Just getting a chance to spend $1.29 to buy the download is up to each individual, but I have great respect for the guys and their decisions! I'm just grateful for the opportunities we've been given as fans!

Ok, since I have everyone's shorts in a twist, I called NBC. I said "does this Sunday's July 4th show air at 7 this week?" She said,"yes, 7." If worse comes to worse, set your DVRs for two hours!

Sorry SheriS! Sorry Lauren! I'm a patriotic guy. I love everything these guys do. I get it! I have all their albums and I've seen them twice in concert. There a lot of songs I would love to hear them do their own arrangement of. I think Walter Chase's version of Joy to the World is absolutely amazing. I'm a huge fan but as I said before I like this song the way it was written.

Shaina, yes, the website does state the "normal" times the show is on Sundays. I'm just saying when I DVR'd mine, it scheduled it for 7, with my local news at 8, and Wimbledon at 9. I've sent an e-mail (and Twitter) to NBC for clarification but haven't heard anything yet.

From the NBC Today Show website:
"Weekend TODAY airs Saturdays (7-9 a.m. ET) and Sundays (8-9 a.m. ET) on NBC."

Anything else I tried to Google actually gave me this blog post... :)

S, so your DVR might record the wrong thing? Darn, I need to check too, now.

Now I'm concerned about a possible time change on the TV show. Finally was able to get it scheduled on my DVR, but the service often doesn't include time changes, so....? :-\

For Jim: I think you missed the point of SNC's last album and why so many of us love what they do. They do not do "straight" music as someone else intended it to be done. They always put a "twist" on their music whether it combining two songs or whatever they might choose to make it their own. THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF WHAT STRAIGHT NO CHASER DOES WITH THEIR VERSION OF A SONG OR JUST THEIR MUSIC IN GENERAL. That is one of the reasons I like SNC--they take an older song and make it their own. Love it and why I buy their CD's.

For those saying stop complaining about there being a cost-yes, the guys have a right to charge and have worked their @$$es off to get where they are. The way it was written made it sound like it would be free and that is the complaint-the wording for many and not necessarily the cost. Would I get it if it were a whole cd? Yes but I can't afford to spend $1.29 here and $1.29 there on single downloads.

Jim, so you would rather have them do every song just how it was written? How boring. I'm glad they know how to put their own spin on each song. You don't want to sound just like everyone else and everyone else's version when doing ANY song, because no one would care about it then.

Have to agree with Jim Thompson....yes, there's a charge....big deal....these guys are working their butts off FOR US....you paid for "With a Twist" didn't you? Wouldn't you be willing to pay a small fee if the guys were donating the money to, let's say, a 9/11 fund, or something similar?? Look at it this way, if you've attended a show, the show didn't end with the last song...nope, these guys do what no other artist does...they spend another hour or two or three signing posters, smiling for pictures, greeting their fans, all because they love what they do and we love them...pay the $1.29 or whatever the small fee is....these guys deserve it!

Always used to play Ray Charles on the 4th of July but he was just replaced! Thanks guys for once again sharing the beauty of your voices with us! Happy 4th!
