Aww, man. I must've looked at it wrong. They're still asking $85. I thought they had lowered it to $60.

For those of you that are in the Cleveland, Oh market area for WVIZ (PBS), I posted this on another blog (somewhere).

    (copied from WVIZ's web site):

STRAIGHT NO CHASER: LIVE IN NEW YORK
    Thursday, March 11, 7:30pm
The a cappella phenomenon Straight No Chaser, whose quirky version of “The 12 Days of Christmas” was a popular sensation, provides a captivating and entertaining performance for all. The male vocalists marry impeccable harmony with just the right amount of humor. This special presents a mix of classic hits from the 1950s and 1960s, the Motown era and contemporary pop hits, all with the classic SNC twist.

This time around, our PBS station is asking less for the DVD. Last time they asked for $85 and this time $60, which I think is a pretty smart move.

    S. Brandon.... I agree with you. i loved the first PBS special and this one was good but it felt a little disjointed because I have watched the first one so often. All the new songs were awesome. it was funny how they edited out part of Dan's intro to "I'm yours" they cut out the reference to six pack which was in the first special.

I'm all for supporting PBS because they do provide great programming, but in this economic climate some of there donation askings are cost prohibitive for alot of folks. I watched the "Celtic Thunder" which was very good but PBS opening donation was $99 which got you one ticket and the other was $500 for the package. I just sat there shaking my head

My hope is that down the road there will be yet another SNC PBS special which will be a entirely new production. I guess what I need to keep in perspective is this does allow for folks to see SNC who might not otherwise have the opportunity and it does give SNC more exposure which is all good.

Saw it tonight. Sure wish whoever makes these decisions had kept it together in one concert. Would have made it worthwhile to make the donation for the DVD. Can't believe they did that, and that they were asking for even more for this one. Sigh....

From what I understand, U-Verse (AT&T TV) will be showing it on WTIU, channel 30. Now you're making me wonder if that isn't even right. I was trying to figure out what that station was, since "regular" PBS has different call letters and is channel 20.

You're right, them not showing it in central Indiana is pretty damned stupid (pardon my French). Maybe we should start a round of calls/e-mails to the station, directed to this Robin person. And I just pledged to them again! Hmmm...shoot, I was going to say I would put the charge in dispute on my credit card to get their attention, but I think I wrote a check.

That really is amazing, El. A bunch of you from that area should keep bugging them and maybe they'll get it on. So crazy.

Good afternoon SNC fans, and specifically, those of us in Central Indiana.

I contacted WFYI, the PBS station in Indianapolis, and received this reply yesterday, Friday, March 5th, regarding the airing of the show by them:

    Dear Mr. Ahlwardt:

    Thanks for contacting WFYI.

We are not planning to carry the Straight No Chaser pledge special during the current TV membership drive. Our next TV drive will be in June, and programming for it has not yet been selected, so it may or may not air at that time. Please check back with us in mid to late May and I will be able to tell you whether or not it will air.

    Sincerely

    Robin Toulouse

I note from their website that WTIU is Indiana University's PBS station. They say on their site that"WTIU is now available to both DirecTV and Dish Network subscribers with the Indianapolis local stations package". Those who don't have either of these tv providers likely won't be seeing the show in Indianapolis. For example, I've reviewed the current Comcast line up today and nothing is showing up on their programming schedule.

Bummer that Indianapolis' PBS station managers have decided to not provide the show at this time to this Hoosier State Capital City's general population about 50 miles to the north of their sister station in Bloomington, home of SNC's Alma Mater. Actually, an amazing oversight in my opinion.

I'm from the Bay Area, too, Christine. We'll need to let our PBS station know that we want them to air this SNC PBS special!

Speaking from a bit of experience, I think it comes down to the PBS station. They all have the opportunity to buy into the program and they decide to either show it or not. If you want your PBS station to show it, let them know. And have your friends let them know, too. Convince them why they should air it.

Red, in your case, contact the station and point out that they have an audience for the program, as both of the concerts are sold out. If they know there is interest, they'll find a way to air it. Believe me, when another artist I follow had a PBS special last year, we fans were the ones who got the local PBS to air it.
