    Update from the Road

Well, the first show (last night in Redding, CA) is checked off the list and we have something like 75 left (although right now it appears more like 800).  To those of you from Redding reading this:  thanks for helping us have a great time kicking off our tour in your hometown (and for the great weather)!

Don, our newest member, did a fantastic job remembering his parts and blocking.  Great pre-show quote from him:  "If any of you see me looking like a lost child onstage, please tell me where to go so I don't look like an idiot."  Fortunately, he didn't need any help from us and held his own.  Good work, Don!  Now go get me a bottled water.

Speaking of Redding and Don, he's SNC's current indoor go-kart champion, soundly defeating Randy, myself, Walt, Mike, Tyler, Jerome, Charlie, and K-Merch (our merch guy Kyle) yesterday.  Big props to Julie from Need 2 Speed Indoor Racing in Redding for letting us have some fun on our first day out on the road (and Jerome for saying hi to her in the parking lot and asking her what she did around town).  Seriously, there was a medal ceremony (Charlie was 2nd place, K-Merch somehow came in 3rd).  Don wore it onto the bus this morning, making no mention of it, and got some good laughs out of the guys as we headed out of town and up to Oregon.

I got some extra shut-eye in my bunk en route to Jacksonville, OR, but the guys who were in the front lounge of the bus for the ride said the scenery was awesome.  Seggie's picture on the front page is a testament to the natural beauty out here in the Pacific Northwest, making it one of our favorite places to visit while we're on tour.  (Remember the pic from Crater Lake last year?)  Plus, everyone's friendly out here and make us feel at home (or at least as "at home" as we can feel while we're living out of suitcases on a bus).

Earlier today at our sound check, we sang for about 50 high school choir kids from Jacksonville and had a fun Q & A session with them afterwards.  Turns out there's a big football game in town tonight that we're competing with, but a good handful of them will be at the show.  Hopefully this rain will blow over (it's an outdoor venue) and everyone will be dry for the concert.  As Seggie reminded us, the same thing happened at our show in Kettering, OH earlier this year and all was well.

So far I've heard the words meatloaf, strawberry, and shortcake.  That means one thing:  dinner is served.  Note to self:  don't nullify the great P90X workout from early with DR, Jerome, Walt, and Don with dessert ;)

Thanks for stopping by.  We're looking forward to seeing you all on the road soon!

Kim, are you asking if Seggie was off having ice cream? ;-) :-D
klancy96's picture

Did Seggie get DQ'd? Parked for aggressive driving?? Is that why you didn't list him above? ;) Thanks for the update. It's always fun to hear about your journey and you bring such life to your writing!

Can't wait to see you in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO.

Thanks for the update Ryan :-) Glad "the New guy" is doing so well. Look forward to seeing you down the road

A classy act from a classy group of guys. What a privilege to be in attendance at the J-Ville concert. The full rainbow over the stage just before the show was a perfect portent what was to come. To say you are talented would be a gross understatement. Thank you, all !

Just wanted to let you guys know the concert in Jacksonville last night was awesome!. We came prepared to sit out the weather . . . fortunately not a drop of rain by showtime. You had us on our feet most of the show . . . hardly noticed the chill in the air. Those of us on the knoll had an unforgetable evening. Looking forward to seeing you in Salem later in your tour.

My family is so happy we skipped the game and went to see you instead...AMAZING, AMAZING night with you guys! (our team got killed anyway...lol) Your blog is great...love to see the P90X thing happening, that's quite impressive to take it on the road! I thank God for music on nights like last night. It was some of the most beautiful sounds my ears have ever heard in person. =) We got home and listened to more on youtube...O Holy Night and your rendition of Poison/Billie Jean are tied for our favorite at the moment. Come back, okay?! Southern Oregon loves you guys! PS: We couldn't tell there was a "newbie" on stage...so great job, Don! =)

Ha, Julie!

Thanks for checking in Ryan! I love reading your blog! Seggie's pic is beautiful, but if you really want to see something spectacular, get your cameras ready for your trip thru Michigan for the Oct. 2nd Kalamazoo show! There is nothing like fall in Michigan! The colors on the trees are awesome! And while you're here, be sure you try to get to a cider mill for fresh cider and warm donuts (or caramel apples if you'd rather!) See you soon!

Thanks Ryan! Way back when, we got a tour video of the 1st bus. Would love that for the 2nd bus also. Can you, or someone else in the group, share with us what's involved in the process of finding a new member? Thanks, D

As always, thanks Ryan for keeping us informed and making us a part of your "road" family

Thanks for the update, Ryan! And, if you DO see me on the road, please have the bus driver stop so one of you guys can help me up and get back on the sidedwalk. =)

Hey Ryan! So glad to hear that Don can hold his own on stage and on the racetrack. Guess you guys chose wisely! It is nice to know that you were warmly welcomed in Redding. I'm thinking, why wouldn't you be? Thanks for always keeping us in the loop. We really do appreciate it. :)

Thanks for the great blog post and helping me feel like I'm on the bus with you guys! Am very curious about the "P90X workout"....your tweets about it were mysterious. Would love to hear all about it. Continue to travel safe and have fun!

Ryan, Thanks for the blog from the road. Always nice to hear what's going on while you are all traveling. Safe journey and see you in PA 10/9.

Welcome back to the Pacific Northwest! Oregon is one of my favorite places to vacation to, although I can't say I've been to Jacksonville (yet). Looking forward to seeing you this December, when you swing back up to our corner of the US. Here's to good weather for your concert and, as always, thank you for the update!

Oooh, Shaina, good bus question. Do tell, boys. Inquiring minds want to know!

Off to a great start - glad to hear it. Thanks for bringing us in at the start of this round. :-)

Thanks for this blog post, Ryan. I needed a little something lighthearted to read today. :) Question for you: Since there are two buses now, what's the divide?
EileenR's picture

Thanks for the update, Ryan! Informative and entertaining, as always.

I was looking forward to reading the road tales and you don't disappoint! Glad the first show went well and you guys got some time to relax. Looking forward to when you come to the east coast. Til then, be well, travel safe and wow the crowd.

As per usual, thanks for the update. We love to hear from all of you. Don needs to get a picture up on his profile.
