Chaser Convention

@Kaffy Yeah, I was thinking about it afterwards and you're right... Wishful thinking... :) But a surprise appearance sounds fabulous... :D

Another thought I had... If the guys came... We should take a group photo. And I mean ALL of the Chasers that came, all of the guys and their crew. That would be the most epic picture ever. And we should take one that's Christmas card worthy and one that is goofy... (get your Walt impressions ready ;) lol!)

a more realistic Idea would be to have a convention for 3 days.. Friday-Sunday, and not necessarily have the guys perform or actually be there. (while it would be awesome if they could be there, sometimes at conventions they make surprise appearances.... *wink wink*) I think having it shortened would be more ideal, instead of an entire week.

I mentioned this tongue in cheek the other night on Twitter when it was announced SNC would be performing at IU in November! There is no place more appropriate than to go back to the beginning.

I certainly want to go on the cruise but yes, many people cannot afford airfare to FL and the cruise itself (same goes for the Alaskan cruise idea). At least IN is in the "middle" LOL - making it driveable for many.

I had a thought the other day... (Miraculous, I know! ;) lol) There is a convention for homeschoolers my family goes to every year to look at buying curriculum and fun educational stuff and also attend workshops on how to educate your children in the best way. Wouldn't it be so neat to sit in a music composition workshop or a History of the Beatles class or have a group voice lesson or two lead by one of the guys?? I would pay money for that!

GML, I cannot wait to hear about them once they happen. :) I love me a good shenanigan!! Or eight...

Great thoughts, Chasers!! Keep them coming!! :)

I agree. Plus, a cruise just isn't feasible for those of us that have a hard time getting around & doing certain things. Pretty much anything on land is the best way to go.

No, no, no! I mean, please consider this: not only can some of us not afford a cruise, I can't possibly be the only one who couldn't stomach it (literally). Thanks, Fab4tune for pointing out all the things that I was thinking of but couldn't come up with, but PLEASE make this event on solid ground!! (And with the three years to plan and save up.) Maybe the next cruise *could* be Alaskan our out of Canada - I would be supremely jealous - but please please please, let's let our group fantasy include something on dry land. (But not too dry....no wildfires, please.) Thank you, and good night.

Yeah, would love to see Alaska! Thought maybe the guys, their families, and some Chasers might want to , as well! Plus SNC does have a Chaser is Alaska!! She is all alone up there, and feeling so out of the loop! I *know* she'd be happy!!!

Sorry, Maria Fulton, they are a *surprise* for when I *do* get to go on a cruise! Shenanigans, for sure! (Plus, someone may have already thought of them for this cruise, already!! You know GCMTA!)

I use to develop and run activities for groups as part of my job...back in the day, but these ideas are *fresh* and strictly SNC!!!

Frankly, I think GML's idea of an Alaska cruise (out of Seattle or Vancouver) would be fantastic. Not that I'm biased by living halfway between Seattle and Vancouver or anything! Fab4Tune brings up some great points, and Alaskan cruises are fabulous! I think that many of the great ideas brought up here could easily be incorporated into an Alaska SNC cruise. Keep these great ideas coming everyone! :)

I would LOVE a convention! I've read that the band Depeche Mode used to have some pretty spectacular ones in the 80's. Now though, I think there are just ones that are run by fans with cover bands. When they were still pretty big even they had other bands there as part of the entertainment. I like S's idea of an 'A cappella Con'. I wish it was easy to contact other bands. Maybe we could have some of the group from The Sing Off come too! Although, I agree with Fab4tune too. How would we get the $ to pull it off & I'm not sure they're that world renowned ( I think that's the word I want to use).

Well, taking into account Fab4Tune's and all the other comments, I'd like to suggest that this "Convention" take place in the Summer on a week long Alaskan cruise, with 3 years notice, so we can all "save up"! (I also have some ideas for Chaser activities, and to make the guys laugh, for a change!)

Not at all knocking the idea either...LOVE it, but if you're looking to have a huge gathering/literal convention, I agree with Fab4tune. I also agree with S, maybe if the the time period was smaller, it would work better...allowing for travel time of course because there are some *Chasers* I would love to get to meet. Good Discussion Topic, Maria!! :-)

When you have a large scale convention it has to draw the masses, not just one hundred or so Chasers. The thing that makes Fan Conventions possible is selling LOTS of tickets so that you can pay the act(s) to appear & perform. Also most hotels/convention centers charge for their space (ballrooms & meeting rooms) and ticket sales help pay for that cost. So does *renting* tables to vendors who sell merchandise & memorabilia. You need to draw a lot of vendors also, not just Kmerch & various Chasers.

Not knocking the idea; i would LOVE to see a SNC *convention* someday but there's much more that goes into staging a fan convention than meets the eye. I agree with Angie, the cruise is close to what you're talking about...Rose Tours is making all the "Floating Convention" arrangements & the price we pay to go on the cruise covers fees, concerts, special SNC events, etc. It's nice to dream about a convention but you need to know the rate to book the group for one to as many as FOUR shows before you plan something as big as that. There's insurance, security, transportation & food for the celebrities (you've heard the guys mention riders) and so many details & costs. Just saying...not trying to be a party pooper.

I don't think it's only a fantasy, if you'd take it down to a two- or three-day weekend. But these conventions have a ton of...not sure what the word is...people who attract the customers. Don't they have both entertainment and vendors? They do Gen Con in Indy and it's a big deal (never been), but you'd have to have more than one act to carry it off. Maybe you need to think along the lines of an "A Cappella Con" -- but with a better name. ;-)

I understood what you meant. A lot of the ideas were pulled from the cruise because it looks like a lot of fun, but the rest of the stuff (raffle for the dinner/dance, scavenger hunt, Chaser merch vending and how-tos) were original ideas. Oh! And I forgot! There was also talk of a corn hole tournament. (I bet us Chasers would totally dominate!)

What I meant is, Chaser from all over will be spending a long weekend together, SNC will be doing several shows, one of which the set list will be provided by Chasers, there will be a dance party (complete with neon, aka 80s dance party), karaoke, M&Gs, a quiz/game show...

  • Chaser Convention

There has been a great discussion on Twitter about the possibility of one day having a Chaser Convention. A place where Chasers from across the world can convene and share in their love of the amazing 10-man a cappella group! :) During the discussion many ideas have come up as to what we could do at this convention. Here's a list... (And mind you these are just ideas! Not all of them would happen because there are a lot! But it's still fun to dream!!)

It would have to be a week long (Monday-Saturday) to make enough time for everyone to meet each other. (NoChasers left behind!)
The guys would perform four nights out of six leaving two open for a dance party and karaoke night. ("Bring your neon tights!") And the set lists would be written by the Chasers! (Mutiny!! Lol!!)
    There would obviously be M&Gs.
An interview session where the Chasers can interview the guys and vice versa.
There could be a live recording of the SNC Fanchat podcast in front of a live studio audience. (No pressure y'all!)
A place where Chasers who make their own merch can bring them and sell them or teach other Chasers how to make them. (Perhaps a flat chaser master class??)
Possibly a quiz show. Not sure what the questions would be. Maybe we could make it like Jeopardy?? Chasers vs. SNC?? (Thoughts? Discussion?)
There was also talk of maybe a scavenger hunt that everyone (including the guys) could be involved in and a dinner/dance. The dinner/dance would involve a raffle to get a chance to dance with your favorite member of SNC and their crew! (Squee!) And all of the proceeds would go to a charity agreed on by both Chasers and the members of SNC and their crew.
And of course, the obvious, Wifi and places to charge our phones so we can tweet! :)

We would love to hear your thoughts! This is a really far out dream and idea, but hey! We can dream, can't we?? :D please also include your thoughts on where it could be and what time of the year it would be best. #ChaserLove
