    A rare Walt blog

Yeah, I know.  I don't blog a lot.  I'm on Twitter quite a bit (@SNCWalt) and I like posting pics, but usually not a blog guy.  Generally let Green (Ahlwardt) lead the charge.  But after reading Ryan's post this afternoon, I felt the urge.  The urge to ramble to whoever is reading.  Let's see how this goes...

I guess first of all, I want to thank everyone that is an avid member of the website for being so avid.  It amazes me to no end to see the regular comments and pictures and discussions that occur on this site all the time.  It humbles me to know that people take such a great interest (passion, even) in the group I care about so much. Long before the 12 Days video took off, the guys in this group had been close friends for a long time, and shared this group just among ourselves and the new members that would join back at Indiana University.  Now, SNC is being shared about fans around the country and all around the world.  I hope it is known, and I speak for us all in saying this, that we don't take a single one of our fans (friends) for granted.  Thank you.

...OK, turns out when I blog I get all mushy.  Let's talk about Atlantic City.  I know some of you guys can't make it out here, and that's fine.  I promise you that some of this summer's show will make its way into our fall tour set list.  However, if you are in the area and can make it out, it's a fresh new take on what Straight No Chaser can be.  Costume changes, staging and dancing, even Charlie improving with audience members as a game show host: It's a totally different type of show for our fans to enjoy.  Highlights for me: Our take on the Beach Boys "Surfer Girl" (however, with new lyrics and a new title - "Jersey Girl"), Tyler killing it as Frankie Valli with our "Four Seasons Medley", SNC's take on the Rolling Stones classic "Miss You", and much more.  Come check it if you can.

Random thoughts: I'm really tan for once.  I used to be a lifeguard for years as a kid.  Happy to be tan again.  I still am not a golfer, however I am trying.  Definitely like being able to hang out with my wife and family as much as I have so far this summer - being only 2 hours from New York City as well as Easton, PA.  Trying not to hang out at the craps table too much (still "up" on the summer, but fortunes are fading).  Living in a casino is about as weird as you think it is.  I've averaged 1.5 meals a day at McCormick and Schmick's for the past month (thinking about buying stock).  Looking forward to the fall tour, including the addition of a 2nd tour bus (oh yeah).  Gonna miss Dan being in the group.  All good: He's going to be good, we're going to be good, just saying, going to miss Dan.

Well, that was fun.  Sort of therapeutic.  Hope this was somewhat entertaining.  I'll try to stop back sometime and blog.  I really hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  Please stop by and say hi to us on the road.  Walt out for now...

Since you found this blogging thing therapeutic, hope that means we will be able to hear more from you. It breaks my heart that I can't come to AC, but sure have enjoyed the videos that have been posted. Awesome music, awesome choreography, and just plain great job by all the SNC guys! Can't wait to see you in Charlottesville in November--wow, that seems a long way away to get my live SNC fix! Thanks for your update and will look forward to more from you in the future! Hope you've been able to spend time with your family this Summer since you are so close!

Caught one of the AC shows. The only word I can think of to describe it is: EPIC.

I really enjoyed reading your blog, Walt. I hope you'll come back and do another one. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It is a rare and wonderful thing you and the guys do for us fans here and at each and every live show. It is very much appreciated.

My husband and I saw you at McCormick and Schmick's! It looked like a party was going on! It was my husband's first time to see you perform live since the danceaton at IU and he thought you were wonderful! (He is a Randy fan.) I think all the fans wll miss Dan. Who is going to sing "Straight No Chaser" now?

I thought someone said Angelo was Walt's nephew. Walt?

WALT!! Thanks for the blog-- loved getting to know you. I LOVED the AC show. (Been there--bought the t-shirt--literally!!).....the bandannas (80's decade) were killing me!! Will catch you all agin in C-Ville (VA) in November. Enjoy the rest of AC... get some rest and we will look forward to hearing more from you soon!!!

Walt, you might have seen that blogging is Fun. And thank you for taking the time to write and not play golf. And, on a more serious note, I'm so relieved to learn from a post below that you have a very sweet son, Angelo! I get so worried that the group will Ponce-out when weddings and familes just happen. Now you can go all out and get Lauren and Ryan in on the baby act and get a caretaking collaborative going! You all deserve professions you love AND families you love. How's that for mushy? And it's this connection with your fans that makes SNC pretty revolutionary and groundbreaking - counteracts all the phoney, synthesisized music and musicians that we hear now. Thank you and SNC so much for all you give!

Great blogging Walt!! We will be in AC in TWO days and I am so excited about it!!! My boys think that the CD will wear out since I play it so much. :)

Love the blog, Walt. Please do it more often. I'll miss Dan, too. I wish I could see you guys at AC. I'd love to attend one of his last shows. Would love to say good bye in person, just can't afford more shows (not that you're not worth it) I love seeing you all. Got to see you in Dayton June 5, great show as always. Will catch two more shows in the fall. Will miss seeing Dan, but it will be great seeing all of you.

See you in Atlantic City Thursday night. Can't wait!!

Walt - You should blog more often!! I just purchase 8th row, center stage tickets for 8/27 - a birthday gift to myself and my 14 year old son. A shout out that night for a "Happy Birthday to Taylor and Denise" would totally rock! Saw you guys in April in NYC and it was a fabulous show! Can't wait for the 27th! Quick question....why no dates in Philadelphia?? I know that AC, NJ is close but The City of Brotherly Love NEEDS SNC....actually I know you were just in Philly singing on the morning show and I was walking by the studio just as you guys were singing! I work a block away for the Fox studio. I have two venue suggestions for Philly - The World Cafe Live - small venue but it is awesome for the audience - tell Ryan that I have seen Edwin McCain there twice AND The Trenton War Memorial Theater is also great! See you in AC! Denise

Jeffrey, my guess is that they will, as they did several at the Indy concert on Dec. 5 last year. Can't swear to it, of course. You might post this again under the community discussion called "we want to hear from you," put up by the SNC webcrew.

I would say you are a fine blogger Walt. I am one of the "Napa crew". I have been to three shows so far (Napa, and twice in Fresno). We have tickets to the Fresno show and a group is going to Cupertino. Can't wait. It is great that you guys let us know more about you by blogging here. Keep it up! See you in November.

Hello, I have a group of co workers here in Los Angeles who are excited to see your group perform. One of them saw you perform with Barry Manilow at the Hollywood Bowl. Any we would like to know if you will be performing your Christmas songs at your Decemeber 4, 2010 peformance, here in Los Angeles. So far I have eight people lined up. Can you please let me know, so that I can put the buzz out ....Jeffmiguel@hotmail.com

Hi Walt; Loved your blog! Love all you guys. Was at the show last night with my mom (our 2nd time seeing you in AC) and we'll be back again with our hubbies at the end of Aug. before you leave. Got the chance to meet all of you last night...I was the mid-40's lady who told you that you were my favorite and not to tell the other guys...then I said the same thing to the rest of the guys and it's absolutely true...I love you all and each of you is my favorite for a different reason. I love your take on us "Jersey Girls"...so funny!! You are a very talented lyricist. Going to miss Dan too...he is my favorite...lol. See you again soon. You rock! Kelli

Walt: Loved your blog post. I've thought about you so many times and how difficult it must be to be away from your baby. I was almost in tears for you as I watched the video you posted on YouTube because of what you have given up to be on tour with SNC. Hope your beautiful family are doing well and you have been able to spend some time with them while in AC. Wish I could make the trip but the timing is just not working out--I'm one of those begging here on the blog for a DVD of one of the Harrah's shows! Hope you all will consider doing that as there are a lot of us that would purchase one. Thanks for your great blog post and indeed it was entertaining! Your fans just love hearing from any and/or all of you. I hope you know we really do care about each and every member of the group and keep you all in our prayers. We just love your music and hang on every note! Thank you for all you do for all of the Chasers--we are very gratefull. Stay well and safe!

I think you did a fantastic job with ur blog Walt! haha....I enjoyed it!!! :) I can't wait to see you this fall!!!!

Thanks for the blog post, Walt--always good to hear from you! I really enjoy the updates on what the group is doing, life on the road and how you spend your down time. SNC's openness and accessibility to/with their followers is unbelievable! And we are all the more interested (beyond the music) because we relate to you as friends, brothers, sons, etc. We are thrilled with your success and only want the best for all of you, wherever that takes you from here. Keep doing what you're all doing--enjoy every minute! Kay

Not only are you all just like nothing I've ever experienced, but your wives as well. Molly sent me a very nice note when I requested to add her to my friends list. I agree with the rest that say nothing quite like the experience we have with you all has ever happened before, but I've also never been such a nut over a group since the Monkees! Yes, I said the Monkees, & I'm definitely showing my age! The big difference is that I was a child back then. I bought my 1st ever concert t-shirt at the Chicago Theatre show this spring, & wear it proudly, & I also have had people come up to me when I'm wearing it or any that I've had made, saying they like you guys too! After reconciling with the love of my life this summer, yea!, a band/music director, I've been introducing him to the group, & he's never heard of anything like it either, & he's a life long musician! We've got tickets to the afternoon SNC concert at the Chicago Theatre in December, & I'm very excited to introduce him to all of you. I've been like a Jehovah's Witness this year, but instead of going door to door speaking about God, I've been telling everyone about SNC! I always try to show them one of your videos before letting them listen to your music, cause they never believe it's a cappella if they don't! I can't believe no one has asked about you calling Ryan Green? Or maybe I missed that somewhere along the way when I was in Europe with no internet! And, we want more info & pics of the bus! Are you finally getting one that's decorated? They have those great wraps now where you can put almost anything on there, it would be great! See everyone next month in AC! Joanne: Don't give up on the AC concert! I was able to put tickets into the cart from the link to the Pittsburgh show for the 14th on the tour page. Also, if it does end up sold out early, many times they add another show if possible. Keep checking back! Last year I was able to get tickets in Chicago when they added another show.

Hi Walt, Great to see you guys last Saturday Night, although we missed the first 15 minutes of the show traveling around the parking lot looking for a space. The show was still excellent as always. If anyone's going to the show get there early to find a space. Just to show how much we love you guys we drove 2 hours to the show and 2 hours back afterward. I was reading on your profile that one of the songs you like to perform is Hi De Ho. I have always been a big fan of Blood Sweat and Tears and I love the arrangement you guys did so much it inspired me to make it my new favorite karaoke song. Looking forward to Boston in the fall! Jim

whooops, looks like I'm gonna spoil that, Kathy... :) Walt, I got to read this on my iTouch during a break in my math class today. Thank you for the sweet interruption! I laughed, I "awwwwww"ed... Thank you for being your fabulous self and sharing a bit of a glimpse into what's going on in your head lately :) You guys are always saying that you have the best fans. I think how great your fans are is a reflection on how great you all are, especially to your fans. So, if we're the best fans, I guess that means you all are the best, period. :)

Just wanted to make the 30th comment so both Ryan and Walt's blog have the exact same amount of comments. ;-) LOL

Dang, no matter how much I look over before I hit post comment, I find I miss a word. That should read " we have taken you into our hearts as well" Must have been the tears in my eyes from reading all this mushy stuff ;)
Kathleen's picture

Walt, Get mushy all you want, I get that way too talking about friends and family and how they have brought joy to my life. Never in a million years thought I would feel like a(n) (inter)national touring group was like family. Yet, you guys have let us in to your lives with your posts here and your treatment of the Chasers at your concerts. Chasers on this site have become friends with each other and as you see from all the comments, we have taken into our hearts as well. I honestly wonder if there has ever been a group quite like you before. I know I have never come across anyone like SNC. All I need to do on a bad day is turn on your music, check out the fansite and my day is better. Hope to hear from you again and tell the others to pop in once in awhile with a quick blog. Kathleen

Great blog! Thanks for the smile today! When I'm talking about SNC to coworkers or friends that I haven't converted yet, I love when they ask me if I think I'll ever have the opportunity to meet any of you guys. They are always stunned to hear that you will sit, meet, talk, and autograph until the end of a line after each show! That dedication to your fans is unheard of today, and it is truly appreciated by your fans! I've been to four shows and have favorite moments from the performances and from the meet and greets! 'Whack-a-Walt' being right up there, which leads me to thank you personally. Walt, your sense of humor is awesome! Thank you for sharing that with us!!
Joanne Harrity's picture

Thank you for all of you guys keeping up with videos and pictures. I can't make it to AC and my son was going to take me to your concerts in Pittsburgh but both nights are sold out. Anyway, I think you guys are awesome and I like your take on songs more than I like the originals. I appreciate this site because I feel like I know you guys. Anyways sorry for rambling on. Can't wait for you to record more music that I can buy.
ChaserJulie's picture

Hey Walt! Thanks for checking in! It's always interesting to hear what the other members of the group are doing. I mentioned to Dan a few days ago that SNC's approachability and the photos, videos, and information we get from the group on this website make the "Chasers" feel more like your friends than your fans! I guess the feeling is mutual. I know it's something I have never experienced before but feel so fortunate to be part of. (At least you said we're "avid" fans, and not "rabid"!) Wow! You know you're coming up in the biz when you get TWO tour buses! Beep! Glad your time is going well in AC and that you've been able to spend time with family. We'll all be sad that Dan's time will end with the close of the show at Harrah's, but his choice is understandable. I'll be catching the show the tail end of August (I can hardly wait!) and I'll see you when you roll through Pennsylvania. Everyone stay well and keep doing that thing you do!! ~Julie

Thanks for the glimpse into your day!! I love all of you, and the talent that you all share! Look forward to seeing you August 28!!

Good to see a blog from you, Walt! Come back more often, and bring some of the other guys. We love Ryan's writing, but as in singing, I'm sure everyone has something different to contribute. :-) Your writing from the heart is very sweet. Since I don't tweet, I don't think to look at all of those very often, so I appreciate blogs all the more. What I don't appreciate is not being one of the folks who will get to see you all at Harrah's. :-( Oh, well. At least I know they will take a lot of pics and post recaps. Regarding costume changes: I don't mean to be tacky, but with all that dancing, how many shirts do you guys go through in one night? Do you have multiple identical costumes, or do they get cleaned quite often, or what? Since I won't get to see it, are you allowed to tell me how many different outfits you wear for one show? For some reason I have developed a great curiosity about the group's apparel. :-D So as long as I'm asking....when you guys do the morning shows, do you coordinate what your wearing? Not to match, but to not match, if that makes sense, i.e., so you don't all show up in gray pants and blue shirts, or whatever. If you feel inclined to answer my questions, thanks. :-)
