A Very Bittersweet Night for SNC

Yes, it's 3:24 in the AM.  Yes, Mike and I are driving home for 11 hours tomorrow.  Yes, we promised each other we'd leave no later than 9:30.  Yes, I'm getting room service breakfast one last time at 8.  Yes, we just hung out altogether for one last hurrah at Harrah's tonight and we will feel the lack of sleep tomorrow.  Yes, it's all going to be worth it.

"Thank you" doesn't cut it.  Saying we appreciate the support our fans show us on a constant basis doesn't cut it.  Being able to give a little of our time back to you all on our last day in town to have some laughs together doesn't begin to scratch the surface of how much we are indebted to you, the person reading this, for giving us the opportunity to share our common love of performing with you.  This summer run in Atlantic City wouldn't have happened if not for you, coming out with your families and friends to spend time listening to us in your home towns.  Without a crowd of folks such as yourselves to sing for, we're just a bunch of college buddies who enjoy singing without a band (ha!).  With you guys in front of us, though, night after night, we are a bunch of guys who are beyond blessed to get to do what it is we do.  Furthermore, our families and loved ones back home have sacrificed so much so we can perform for you and they deserve more of your praise than we ever could ask for...and you all even go so far as to personally reach out and thank them on here, on Facebook, etc.  Seriously, Randy hit it on the head with the caption to his last two photos on the main page, our fans ROCK.

Don't get me wrong...I can't WAIT to be home.  Good grief, if I have to walk through that smoky hallway one more time to get to the theater, I may snap.  Enough of that, though; let's focus on the fact that we just crushed 40 shows of fun music for people who paid good money to spend their time with us; and how we were so fortunate to have done so.  Give us a couple weeks to rest up, do our respective thing, reflect a bit, and realize all over again why we're doing this crazy, completely unorthodox path of a career, and we'll be seeing you soon enough.  Forgive us if we're a little quiet on the site while we're home.  Sometimes doing absolutely nothing means absolutely everything, especially when we're away from home for as much of the year as we are...

I said it in my intro tonight onstage; tonight is a point in our lives that we will remember always.  Our founder, director, friend, and brother Dan performed his last show with SNC.  Those of you who were there to witness the love we have for him and that he has for us will forever be a part of that communal memory.  For that, on our last evening in Atlantic City, I am grateful and will remain so for a long, long time.

Cobra, we wish you only the best and couldn't be more proud to carry on the legacy you created nearly 15 years ago.  May God bless you in your new endeavors, buddy, and may He continue to bless what you started in SNC!  (Let the well wishes commence on the comments wall....now!)

Good night, everyone, and thank you as always for your support of Straight No Chaser.  Send prayers all of our ways tomorrow, please, as we travel home.  Until next time...

Dan, I just can't imagine SNC without Dan Ponce. Who will write the very clever and entertaining numbers the group does so well? Who will make sure everyone is on key and keeping the beat? You were so wise to pull the guys together one more time and create a music sensation. I'll miss seeing you with them and can only hope and pray that your new gig gives you the opportunity to be as creative and charming as you are with SNC. OK, I know that every member of SNC is creative and charming, but you started it for those of us who just can't survive without the music I can only describe as honest and pure. All good wishes to you and your fiancee for a blessed and happy future. And...let us know how you're doing!

SNC...wanted so much to see one of the A.C. performances. However, my job was eliminated (worked for NJ State..owwww). Upswing: I can listen to SNC cd's as I wrap pennies. Dan...you're killing me over here in Morris County. You will be missed like a spoke in a wheel. Don...if your video is any indication of the future, I suspect with these guys, you are going to be blushing a lot ;-) Break a leg Don and Welcome. SNC -- Go Home!

Dan, I am so sorry to hear that you are leaving the group. What a loss for SNC and for all of the fans. We will all miss your great smile, amazing talent, and the cohesiveness you created among the Amazing Ten!! We will welcome Don warmly and wish you Godspeed in your upcoming life journey. Best wishes to both of you from an Indiana girl in Atlanta!

All the best, Dan, and thank you for the tremendous legacy you're leaving us.

I have been following and LOVING you guys for a couple years now. Thank you for being a positive light of friendship, and good clean fun through music! Dan, we're gonna miss you, but what a legacy you're leaving to continue on.

Wow...what an amazing journey this has been and I'm sure will continue to be for you guys!! And I think my favorite part of watching this whole experience is every time I hear or see any interview w/ any of you I knew from SH at IU...y'all haven't changed one bit!! You are the same wonderfully talented and funny guys you were back then! And Dan...wow...you orchestrated the perfect group...in voice, personality, chemistry, etc...a feat that hasn't been matched since. Its hard to imagine you not being up there w/ the group. Thank you so much for "getting your buddies together...the ones you knew could sing." ;-)...way back then. You have given us a gift. Hope to see y'all in Raleigh in Dec. Enjoy your time off!!! Much love~

Dan, it has been an absolute pleasure to listen to you and the guys make such wonderful music the past few years. I truly appreciate the fact that you started this group and made this all possible with your dream, which has obviously exceeded all expectations. Congrats on your soon-to-be marriage, and good luck with going back into the reporters life. Thanks for the memories, Aaron

I was fortunate to be able to attend the August 13th show at Harrah's. What amazing musicians you all are! Dan will be missed and I wish him the best for the future. And welcome Don! I look forward to attending another one of your performances...maybe during your tour through PA. I even have you guys on my cell phone!!!!!!

I was at the final show at Harrah's and experienced the good-bye to Dan Ponce. I wish him the best in his future endeavors and hope that he continues to arrange for the group as his is an amazing talent. It was a great show and I look forward to seeing SNC in Texas and Arizona before the year is out. Don't stop the music!!!

This former Singing Hoosier has been a fan for many years and is looking forward to seeing his first live performance of SNC in Colorado next month. Thanks for sharing your talent, time, and energy. Your music and teamwork are awesome.

Ryan, this blog was very well written, as usual. I was lucky enough to be at the show and it was amazing! I was also at the show on opening night. It was fabulous then but closing night was just so great. It was so much fun, very high energy, and very emotionally draining. I was literally crying when Dan announced it was his last show, even though I had already known that (which is the reason I finally decided to purchase tickets for the last show instead of a different show). The encore was simply amazing. The audience members could see how much love Dan has for all of you and the group and how much love you all have for Dan as well. To Dan, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Without you, Straight No Chaser would not exist. When I go out for my 21st birthday tonight I am drinking to all of Straight No Chaser. And, as Ryan suggested, I will be drinking Straight No Chaser. Thank you all for an amazing run at Harrah's. I look forward to seeing the group again in the fall. To the families of these talented guys, thank you so much for letting them share their talents with everyone. Without supportive families, these guys would not be able to do what they do. Thank you for giving up your precious time with them so they can sing for all of us fans. To anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of meeting these guys, you really need to get to a show. The meet and greets after the shows are so great. The guys are all so nice and after awhile they start to remember you. I was at three shows this year. After the second show, one of the guys was like "hey I remember you" and actually struck up a conversation with me. At the third show at least half of the guys said they remembered meeting me before. These guys are so genuine, so sincere. They take the time to get to know the fans and it's just amazing. I cannot wait for another show!

So sorry I missed your show on the last night. We loved it and wanted to come back but couldn't do it. Thank you so much for bringing your talents to Atlantic City. You brightened what was otherwise a tough summer for this area. I'm so sorry to hear Dan is leaving but of course we wish you the best. Rest up guys. You've got a tough 72 city tour ahead and my husband and I have had our tickets for the Buffalo show for more than a week already! We just found out your coming back to AC for Thanksgiving weekend and we're getting tickets for that too! (PLEASE do the Christmas Can Can!!!!) Let us all know what we can do to help you continue to get press so more people know you and experience your wonderful voices and wonderful personalities. If there's anyway we can help champion your cause to get a Grammy nomination you know we're on it!!! Can't wait to see you in November.

First, thank you all so much for Saturday night. The music was beyond phenomenal, but it was the love throughout the room that made it so much more. Made 10+ hours in the car inconsequential. Second, thank you, Dan, for being you. I wish you all the best in Chicago. Keep on keeping on. What a blessing to be able to do what you want in the time frame that you want!! I gotta admit, though, that I will miss your presence--although you will always be there in spirit, eh? Third, Dan, what a great job you did in picking your friends! The collective talent is so obvious, that I can only wonder what will be next. But I know that there will definitely be a next. And all of you can trust that I will be there as a Chaser---and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of things! Rest up. Tune up. Clean up---that means you, Walt and Ryan!! You've made it to the 'Two Bus Tour', now let's see what comes next! I look forward to a schedule that allows you to balance home and work---because all the Chasers out there want you to remain happy guys!!!

Ryan! You made me cry!! That was awesome, as usual, completely and totally eloquent. I cannot imagine the sacrifices you guys make, being away from your families most of the year. Enjoy your precious time off and we'll see you guys this fall!! God bless!!

Ryan, It is so nice that you would take the time to write something like this at such a busy time. It is so heartfelt and sincere. Thanks for being so nice and appreciative. Enjoy your break at home. Can't wait til the Fall show! Thanks for all you do.

Klancy: Your "processing" paid off with such a beautiful expression about your AC experiences. I'm very jealous as I'm one of those who couldn't make it to AC, but am so grateful to all the Chasers that posted you feelings and experiences. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with all of us!

I kept thinking if I waited just a bit to let my mind process some of the amazing experiences of this past weekend the words to express my thoughts would come. I’m not really sure I’ll ever be able to fully describe what a blessing this weekend truly was to me on so many different levels. The opportunity to meet Chasers from across the country, to create friendships and memories that last a lifetime, and to have a chance to participate in the Q&A were indescribable. The time that SNC gave us in the middle of your final day is yet another example of how wonderful you guys are. It was above and beyond and truly appreciated. What an honor and a privilege it was to be in the audience both Friday and Saturday to witness the show, the energy, the love between each other on the stage. It is something that I will never forget. May there be time to reflect and rejuvenate the next few weeks and an opportunity to give back just a fraction to your families and friends who have sacrificed so much to support your dreams. Their sacrifices are not lost on us. Enjoy your down time, and may it go slowly! ~Kim

Love your post Ryan. I want to issue a special thank you for remembering so many of our names at the pre-show m & g, in the hallways, at the signing table, etc. I'm sure I'm not the only one who this means a lot to & makes me feel so special. It was very hard for me to attend the shows/m & g on the 18th & 19th, knowing we'd all be there on the 28th & keeping it to myself. I met Seggie at subs in a sack one of those earlier nites, pumped him for info on what was up with getting a new member, which of course he informed me he didn't know what I was talking about, & him pumping me for info on the final show nite, as he said he was positive that we were planning something, & saying that's what makes us so great. I told him the same thing, I didn't know anything about anything. ;-) Thanks so much for taking that last minute as you were walking down the hall, arms filled, to stop & say a few words to me. You guys never even give the slightest impression that you're being put upon or inconvenienced, & that makes me at least, feel very special. Boy Ryan, you hit it right on the head about the smokey hallway on the way to the concert venue! Everytime I went by there, I wondered who's bright idea it was to put the smoking section there! How about one of those back corners somewhere so that everyone didn't have to be subjected to it by just walking down the hall! Yeesh! As you know, I had my own t-shirts made up, & I had such a ball standing by the merchandise table talking you all up, recommending which music people should buy, & generally having many stop me asking where I got my shirt! Even tho I did have my own made, I was still counting on getting one of the new blue ones that we picked the design for, but already on 8/18, they were saying they'd run out of that one a long time ago. I'd hoped they would bring in replacement merchandise, but by the last nite, much of the merchandise had been sold out & not replaced. Enjoy what's left of summer! C U in Chic 12/11!

I honestly don't have the words to respond to your post, Ryan, so I'll simply bid you a blessed and relaxing break with loved ones. Thank you, all of you, for making it easy for us to be such dedicated fans. Best wishes to you and Amy, Dan. May God bless all of your endeavors and please check in with us fans every once in a while. -Tina G.

Ryan, I really would have loved to have been there on Saturday, but because of you (plural you or yuns as they say here), I needed to be here in central PA singing special music at my newly adopted church. Why your fault you may say? I moved away from my hometown in 2001 starting my life over again following a divorce. I found a wonderful new job and new home. Even a new husband in 2006...but there was still something missing. I was attending church with my new hubby, but there was no choir there. I hadn't realized how much I missed singing until I found you guys last year. My new years resolution was to find a local church where I could sing with the choir. I soon found a place I felt comfortable in and which soon felt like home. People in the pews ahead of me would discreetly turn around during hymns to see who was singing and I soon had many requests to please join their choir. So...I did...and is has been so wonderful to sing with a group of "friends" again. I was nervous when asked to perform special music this summer, I decided to take the last opening of the summer. So as you were closing an era of SNC with Dan leaving, I was opening a door again. Thank you for helping me to remember how important music is in my life. You guys are truly an inspiration. I know you appreciate your fans, I don't know of any other group that has ever been quite like you. All of us on this site can feel the love you have for each other and it is reflected in the respect and love that we all have for you. Rest up, spend time with your loved ones(thank you loved ones for sharing with us) and return to us. Thank you for helping me find my voice again. I hope I have the courage to talk to you at the Reading concert in October..See you soon

What a great show. My first time seeing you guys. I see live performances all the time. You are unique and so exquisitely talented. I smiled the entire time. You guys are really funny! I am from Colorado and it was nice to see nice Midwestern guys be nice, be funny and rock the socks off of any performing artist I have ever seen. I was also privileged to see you back stage. I was a bit star struck and impressed by your humility and willingness to tolerate more fans after such a long night and tour. You are gentlemen. That's what sets you apart. Thanks. Ann

Wow, Ryan. After reading EC's post below, I think I'm even more blown away by this phenomenon known as SNC! If nothing else, there is one thing that needs to be said, and that is THANK YOU X10!! You guys are the real deal. I can't help feeling anything but blessed to have been part of the final weekend at Harrah's for so many reasons. The final encore was nothing short of perfect. And yes, we DID witness the love you have for Dan and each other, and I'm pretty sure there was not a dry eye in the venue! As for your tour schedule this year, the word "brutal" comes to mind, and indeed, your loved ones have sacrificed so much in sharing you with us!!! So, THANK YOU to the wives/girlfriends and other friends and family members. Your commitment to SNC is far greater than we, as fans, could ever understand. And, finally, Dan. It was such a pleasure watching you and the other nine play on stage Saturday evening! If you find half that much enjoyment in your new job, you'll be a very happy man! Again, best wishes to you and Amy! I'll be Chasing in Pennsylvania this Fall! Until then, take care of yourselves and enjoy the much deserved time off!! Julie

Ryan, thanks for keeping your fans connected. My wife Lisa and I attended Saturday's final AC show and will never forget either the wonderful harmonies or the tremendous emotion in the room because of Dan's new/old beckoning adventure. We wish him well of course, but recognize it was probably a bit unrealistic (not to mention selfish) for fans to expect 10 talents to march in lockstep forever. We will shoot to see you Thanksgiving weekend back in AC. Sean

Hey Ryan - Again, you write reeel good. And you've made it home safely, per Lauren's happy post. Now you really do have a few better things to do than monitor these posts, that's for sure. For me, words are hard to find. You guys have a really good thing going - keep loving what you're doing, and the love will keep cycling between SNC to fans, from SNC to their loved ones, etc. Wow, that's one powerful force that's just one part of your magic. win-win-win~ And Dan can never be separated from that force because he had the passion to kick it all off in the first place. Following ones passion/s is one great lesson that SNC's taught me and many others. It's worth it!!! Happy R&R! Blessings! Susan (ps, my Sam and Smokey send their regards to Rusty - and they advise him not to wear that onesie too often, too much like Dave having to wear that tiara....)

Hey Guys: Your Harrah's run was one of the most successful summer theater event I have seen in the past three years. Speaking on behalf of all the ushers at the Harrah's Concert Venue theater...we all enjoyed hearing and seeing you guys perform each night. Kudos to Richard for keeping you guys in line. Your fun and quick antics/jokes were great. You guys better watch out what lady you pick out from your audience (last show nite) next time (just kidding). I got to speak to that lady...she had a great time performing with your guys. Hey Jerome...the audience loved it when you say "Your late!!". Keep up the great moves and what does "splits." Your venue is what Atlantic City needs more of. See you in November !!
