This Is Not An April Fools Day Post.

Or is it?  In the spirit of the year's most foolish holiday, here is a list of topics you may or may not read about on your favorite a cappella group's website (hopefully that's us...).  I'll leave it up to you to decide whether they're true or simply the products of my unique imagination.  Enjoy!

    • SNC was chosen to shout the "YEAH!" parts on Rebecca Black's debut album It's Friday (Fun Fun Fun Fun...Fun!), then immediately replaced by Tay Zonday.  No report yet if the two will perform a duet of "Chocolate Rain (On Friday, The Day After Thursday And Two Before Sunday)."
    • While many ticket-holders believe they will be seeing SNC perform classic songs from decades past onstage at Harrah's in Atlantic City this summer, they should be forewarned that this year's theme is "Odd Jobs SNC Does During the Day To Support Their Blackjack Funds" and includes no singing whatsoever.
    • The group's new studio project is rumored to be entitled Ladies Night.
    • SNC's old beards were recently fined in Canada for hunting moose with expired licenses, but all charges were dropped when they broke into a rousing rendition of Billy Joel's "For The Longest Time."
    • There were 11 original members of SNC at Indiana University.
    • Alumni of SNC at Indiana University include:  Burgess "Cowface" McMitchell and Pat Quarternote, who was destined to sing a cappella in college.
    • Besides their voices, the members of SNC also play the following instruments:  piano, guitar, saxophone, violin, trumpet, and drums.  Oh, and jazz recorder.
    • The term a cappella means "small hat worn for singing" in Italian.
    • Every member of SNC uses Apple products.
    • Staples on SNC's backstage rider contract include: Throat Coat tea, a bear of honey (head unscrewed), multi-grain bread, peanut butter, peanut-less peanut butter (for Seggie), and 10 packs of strawberry flavored Big League Chew.
    • Two members of SNC were state champions in high school athletics.  The remaining eight were not.
    • In college, the group nearly went with such names as The Bloomingtones, The Crimson Knights, and Levels before deciding upon Straight No Chaser.
    • Mascots of SNC members' high school alma maters include:  the Jayhawks, Royals, Canaries, Cougars, Argonauts, and Red Rovers.
    • SNC will be appearing briefly on the next episode of Glee.

Thanks for stopping by, Chasers, and enjoy discussing the veracity of these.  (Greep for using veracity...)

Thanks, Ryan! ?

Oh, and thanks for satisfying our curiosity and answering these! (She says as she manages to suppress her PC-superiority complex.)
Shaina's picture

Superior products?! They're just pretty. =P
Ryan_5's picture

I guess I should go ahead and answer these, eh? (Hi, Canada) - False, although I may or may have an unhealthy fascination with both those songs. - False, most guys shoot dice. - No comment. - True, Walt's sang lead. - True - False, but I had a great time coming up with those names. - True, with the exception of the jazz recorder. - False, it means "in the style of the chapel" (Greep) - True (sorry, Shaina, superior products) - True (Throat Coat, honey, multi-grain bread, peanut butter); everything else is just silly. - I have no idea if this is true or false, though I'd lean false. Sorry, KristinC... - True, and thankfully all shot down - Jayhawks (Tyler), Me & Mike (Royals), Jerome (Canaries), Charlie (Cougars), no one (Argonauts), Walt (Red Rovers) - False, but who knows down the road!

Am I gonna have to wait until the M&G in Gettysburg to get an answer to my question about the state champion athletes? Give a girl a break! :)

GLEE i hope thats true.... :D

Eileen...thinking the Crimson Knight followers might be something strong like ..."Crusaders"...but would hope that no fans would fall to the levels (no pun intended!) of being "Knight Crawlers"! (Laughed at the "Bloomers"...not even going there!...LMBSO is close enough! @a la Kary!). Having fun with this blog too Ryan!
EileenR's picture

If you had been the Bloomingtones, Crimson Knights, or Levels, what would we have been? Tonies? Levellers? Definitely not Bloomers... And I can't even come up with a fan name to go with Crimson Knights. Thanks for another fun post, Ryan!
KristinC's picture

I want to know who the state champion athletes are (and what sports). No fair to leave us hanging, Ryan!

How about an onstage slide show of the odd jobs while we're waiting for the start of the concert?

Loved the blog, Ryan!! You never cease to entertain me. As far as odd jobs...just say the word...my house is 45 minutes from AC and we can put you guys to work any time. We could use some help with house cleaning; pool cleaning; lawn mowing; gardening...etc....whatever you all want to do. The pay isn't all that great but we'd provide a home cooked meal and our eternal gratitude...lol.... Hope you're enjoying your down time and I am eagerly awaiting the new studio project!! Thanks for the fun read!

Neeeeeew tuuuuuunes. We craves the neeeeew tuuuuuunes. *waits and craves*

This was so much fun to read! Didn't the 11th member have some kind of plane incident that the rest of the group may or may not have had a hand in? I seem to recall hearing something about that.... ;) Does peanut-less peanut butter mean smooth instead of chunky? If so, I'm with Seggie on that one. If, instead, it somehow means peanut butter without peanuts even in the list of ingredients, then what's the point? If you do show up on Glee, put them all to shame! It wont be hard. Thanks for the post Ryan, it's a really good one
Alexsandra's picture

Ohhhh THATS what I saw roaming around here in Canada. Those scruffy beards are eagerly anticipating the next tour. Ps. There was an embarrassing incident with maple syrup.
Jessica_15's picture

I really hope it's true that there are 10 packs of strawberry Big League Chew with you guys. And if there are...you're going to have to give me at least 5 of said 10 packs. That would be much appreciated. Also, I REALLY hope that you all use Apple products...because they are the best. That is all.

You're always working our brains, can only imagine what yours must be doing...?

These were great Ryan, thank you!!! :)

I don't care what the next studio project is called, just so it is released soon. I need something new to feed my SNC addiction. Hey Ryan, enjoyed the post. You write well. Minor in English, perhaps?
DottieK's picture

I'll admit, I am really enjoying the vision of you guys all standing around chewing gum to warm up. Picturing you humming while doing this is even better. :D
Lisa N.'s picture

Great blog, Ryan. Very funny! I think y'all should add in to your show a glimpse into "odd jobs the SNC guys do to support your blackjack habits" = hilarious! Then for those of us way too far from Jersey, you should video your show at Harrah's and sell it. :)
Diva_Donna's picture

Ahhh, thanks Ryan, I stand corrected! Either works for me, in fact, I really don't care what it's called, I just want it now!!!!! Ok, I let it out, I'm better now...... ;-) That is all....
Shaina's picture

Hmmmmmmmm... I'm gonna play the guessing game with Annie! (She says as she puts on her thinking cap.) F, F, F, F, T (Don't forget Jorge Pascual!), F, T (Who plays the sax, drums, and jazz recorder?), F ("In the manner of the chapel," n'est-ce pas?), T (Regrettably. If I'm wrong, please tell me which member doesn't. He'll be my new favorite. :oP), T, T, T (-SNORT- Bloomingtones? NICE.), T, F.

Classic, Ryan, thanks. I was in need of an SNC blog. #SNCFunFacts #orNot

Great blog post, Ryan, as always! You've got us all wondering what's real and what's not! Happy April Fool's day!
Ryan_5's picture

Slight correction, since my wife is an alum of the group...it's Ladies First, not Ladies Night. Walt co-founded the group in 1999 and the group is still on campus to this day.
KristinC's picture

When do we get the real answers?
SamanthaBari's picture

I hope Ladies Night is absolutely true. I hope the Glee thing is absolutely false.
Diva_Donna's picture

Considering Ladies Night also happens to be the name of the women's a cappella group at IU, I think that is a fabulous idea! Even better, how about a collaboration with them like you did with Manilow? And, I think that was one of the names batted around on the name the next album discussion topic. Ah, I've got it! Odd jobs for them this summer, extras or stunt doubles on Jersey Shore!!!!
