The kindness of strangers...
This evening at the +fabulous+ SNC concert here in Denver, as usual I struck up conversation with people in the autograph line. Random people I don't know, but since they are SNC fans they have to be pretty cool, right?
One of the gals was Samantha, who shared the story of using the money her mom had given her for high school graduation to bring her mom to the concert. We were already deep into the coolness points. I shared that I had bought a couple of tickets for the Hershey, PA show for my Mom as a present. Shhhhh, don't tell her - It's a surprise ;)
So we had a nice chat, and I got to meet her mom Shari (more coolness). I found out Smanatha is a theatre major, and how long she had been a fan. We went through the standard questions - where are you from, who's your favorite member of the group, how did you find SNC, favorite song, etc. We also made plans for photo ops in line.
We has a fun time getting autographs and pictures with the guys (Rome & Ryan even kinda remembered me & Rome asked how many concerts this was for me), and Samantha took some nice pics of me with the guys - I'm not blinking or making weird faces. We walked out together, still chatting about all things SNC related. I told Samantha the website address and suggested she come and join in the fun.
As we were wrapping it up, Shari offered me a ride to the station (coolness points - ding!) since they knew I had ridden the bus. I wasn't going to brave the 35 mile drive down through rush hour, and it's cheaper than parking downtown. I gratefully accepted their offer, since it saved me a walk late at night. Once they found out I was coming back to The People's Republic, it turned out they were headed in my direction. At which point they offered to drop me at a station closer to home, where I could catch one of the local busses, rather than waiting for the Express from downtown. Wow - how gracious.
We had a lovely chat in the truck. Samanthat told me about school, and Shari talked about her work on some satellite projects of the past. Turns out we share a little intersection of a common career area, albeit seperated by a couple of decades. I think it was a lot of fun to get to know each other.
As we approached their exit Shari said 'See, this is where I'd drop you off for the bus, but I'm just going to take you to your car'. She then proceeded to drive the extra 10 miles out of her way to drop me off in Boulder. How cool is that?? I think it's karma for me picking up an early fan outside the Buell last year to take to the special PBS pre-show meet & greet last year.
The kindness of Chasers, indeed...

(BTW - how can you have ONE favorite, anyway? What would Rome & Ryan be without Seggie, Tyler, and Randy? Okay - Rome +is+ da man, but still...).

How sweet! Thanks for sharing this story, redhead.
Yeah, kindness, Eileen...like almost having a vehicle die in 99 degree weather in the middle of the busiest intersection of they city in rush hour traffic. Hoosier hospitality at its finest. :-D
Eileen...I stand corrected!! AND it was DELIGHTFUL HAVING you come visit!! ^ ~ ^
Chasers ROCK...and YES, they ARE some of the BEST people in the world!
Angie, I will be meeting Deejay. She is driving up to Jacksonville for the show on 12/21.
I get to meet my first Chaser in 11 DAYS!!!
Jennifer, who do you get to meet in December?
Very cool story. Chasers are the best! :o) I am looking forward to meeing my first Chaser in December.
Such a great story. It is my belief that the fans of Straight No Chaser are comprised of some of the best people in the world!
Wow, Thanks for sharing a great story I hope they both become a part of chaserville! Oh I enjoy Chaser stories like this. I love all of my Chaser friends!
Such a sweet story! I experienced Chaser kindness firsthand this summer when I was able to visit Kathleen (Tic Tac Lady) and S. Brandon in Indiana.
BTW, Kathleen, don't you think we should all have 13 favorites? ;)
What a great story! I've often thought the M & G must be as much fun for the guys as the show-goers since everyone is STILL smiling and pleasant and in a good mood!
When I've met another Chaser..it's always been with a smile and happy greeting...not to mention a hug right off the bat! Instant rapport! You've probably made friends for life in Samantha and Shari..and if any of the rest of us have the wonderful opportunity of meeting them, we will be just as delighted!! Thanks for sharing!! (And, true...how can you have just ONE favorite???? Gotta have 10 favorites!)
redhead - just goes to prove that SNC has the best, quality fans/Chasers!! So very thoughtful of them to take you right to your car!! See you in Hershey!
Hey Red......just loved your account of the post concert M & G line with Samantha & Shari. How cool it was that they actually went out of their way to drive you to your car. They are definitely worthy of being titled a "Chaser", in my book!
Welcome to the club (if it were truly a club), Ladies!
I feel so fortunate to have *met* so many Chasers. I know I can trust any of them with my life. I am so blessed to be a part of this wonderful group of people.
Amanda -
I hope you had a great time at the concert!
We should all make plans to meet for dinner before the show next year.

Makes me wish I could've stayed to meet the guys. But the Denver show was fantastic! It was my first concert (I've been a fan for a couple years now, just hadn't gotten to a show yet). Next time they come through Denver, I'll be sure I can stick around for the meet & greet.
