The Sing-Off

    The Sing-Off

    I just hoped to start a thread about NBC's four-night show/"competition" "The Sing-Off"...

I have mixed feelings about this, although my overall feeling is positive because after all, a cappella music will be in the limelight for at 4 nights in December! I am anxious for people all over the world to be talking about the 8 groups that were selected for the show. http://www.nbc.com/sing-off/

I'm sure that SNC was wanted on the show, as was my friend's big-time barbershop quartet OC Times. Just curious if SNC could comment on the show or casting of it...

Hopefully we all can enjoy this mainstream show still! :)

This should be interesting....there are so may details up in the air about this show, and season. Biggest thing is the exec producer has changed, and that may make for a different format. I hope to hear more details soon, as my mens groups is auditioning for the show on May 4 in Nashville. I'll update this if I hear anything more about the format.

OK, so we've figured out all the angles why SNC should be invited to guest perform on "The Sing Off". Now we just have to choose a song for them to perform :) They have said their favorite is Fix You. While it is vocally stunnng (really what SNC song isn't) I was thinking they should also focus on the visual since it's television.

Therefore, my vote goes to "The Way You Make Me Feel/Billie Jean/Poison". The choreography of the guys all leaning in one direction and then the other at the beginning is awesome. Jerome could rock Michael Jackson and Mike could wow the crowd with his fancy footwork and moonwalking. PLUS we get "three" songs for the time of one.

It would showcase all that's great about SNC. Their vocalization, choreography and that they have fun while giving a killer performance.

Man, I hope they get on the show.

I was wondering this morning if Sara Bareilles will be a judge again. In that case, would SNC sing "I Want You Back" with her on the show? If so, I hope they would also get to sing one themselves.

You posted this a month ago, but did you hear that Sara will not be returning? I think they announced it somewhere in the beginning of April.

Rich Bentel and I were talking about the revival of "The Sing Off" for a 4th season on the "Under the Influence" discussion. Rich made some very valid points about how the revival of the show coincides with SNC having a certain "Sing Off"-related guest singer featured on their upcoming album, as well as several other SNC-Sing Off connections. He's wondering (as am I) if the time has finally come for SNC to make an appearance on the show. (REMINDER: They would not compete on it, as the prize is a recording contract. Which they already have.)

So I figured it would be good to revive one of the "Sing Off" discussions. There are several. I chose this one because it is a more general discussion of the show- the other main discussion is more specific to the 2010 season. Plus Seggie commented on this one back in 2009. Maybe he will get notifications about additional comments on the discussion and stop by for a "visit". Hi, Seggs!

I am glad that the Sing-Off has started because it brings A Capella into a new light. However, I can't watch it because every song a group sings I always wonder how SNC would do it. I definitely would watch if SNC was a guest on the show, heck I would watch it even if all they did was stand there. Of course, I would be upset that they didn't sing but that's beside the point. I think it would be cool to show the other groups that there is a following for A Capella and that it can be done well.

Is there any possibility that you guys will perform on the Sing-Off as a guest? That would be so awesome.

I was thinking the same thing about a cappella exposure; I'm so glad it's getting much more mainstream!! So excited to see it... :)

Hey guys! We are all aware of the show and are actually glad its going to be on. Any exposure a cappella gets in the mainstream is great news!

As far as being a contestant, the winner of the show gets a record deal with a major label, which we've been inredibly lucky enough to already receive!

We look forward to watching it!

Haven't seen the promos, but if it's anything like most of the competition shows on TV, I have to agree with Dave.

Oooh, and I see three collegiate a cappella groups that I know and love! I'm rooting for the SoCal VoCals!
