Forgive me if this discussion has been had before. I'm kind of thinking it has, so I apologize.
Last night the chasers celebrated the release of With A Twist in the UK by getting together on Twitter and discussing the album & SNC trivia. The question was asked, "what song from With A Twist is your favorite?" Of course everyone had a hard time choosing, and some answers varied depending on whether the CD had been purchased or downloaded since bonus tracks were included with downloading.
My favorite song is The Living Years because it is so well done. But I discovered that several people didn't enjoy the song at all because it made them feel sad. Which got me to thinking this morning, what makes a song your favorite? Is there a certain part that gets pleasantly stuck in your head? The arrangement of the music? Does it showcase a soloist that you can't get enough of? What about meaningful lyrics or memories a song brings back?
Please share your favorite SNC song and what makes it your favorite. :-)

All...through...the night.... *goes off to dream a while*
All Through the Night (one of my personal favorite-est faves) is still available here:
http://www.coolmompicks.com/2010/05/straight_no_chaser_loves_their.php
So...what you're saying is...you like it, Dottie?
And *speaking* of America the Beautiful....I have a new favorite!!! Your comment, Ess, drew my attention to the fact that I still didn't have that one, so I went & downloaded it.....oh. my. goodness. That song is so amazing I can hardly *stand* it!!! Jerome kills the solo! And (should I list each of the guys here?) sound amazing!! All the background vocals...I am seriously tearing up righting this. I know it sounds silly, but that song is so breath-taking. It's an meaningful song to begin with. But on top of that, the arrangement and the vocals...oh, I just can't gush enough about it. Big standing O, Straight No Chaser! Standing O, tears, screaming, and deafening applause. Wow.
Does anyone know if there is still a place to download "All Through the Night" for free? A lot of my music got wiped out. :-\ And America the Beautiful, and anything else they've given us in the last year or so?
@marcaich I agree! :D
Hi-De-Ho shows off ALL of the voices.. and is the perfect, ultimate, non-Christmas #basslove song.
(Grinch is, of course, the ultimate Christmas #basslove song!)
@ Marcaich - Iove that song... especially (at least when they were HERE) Charlie's "tearful" confession that he's a bass... he's so ADORABLE!
Ok, that probably is not the word most guys like applied to them, but it's true!
Hi-De-Ho has long been my favorite for many reasons. 1: Musically its amazing 2: live its a HOOT 3: It shows off all the voices and ranges so well, even in the guys vamping in the background :-) and 4: Intro Bass translations.... :-) (which I am bummed they don't do anymore) I can watch it and its great and slightly different every time.
@Terry: I couldn't agree with you more. The more I hear that song the more I fall in love with it and I love what Mike does with it! Thanks for the link!!
There is so much love in this post. It's so cool!!
Here is a great song I hope they bring back. Love the way they sing it.

These days, "All Through the Night" stops me dead in my tracks. No explanation necessary.
Thanks to Terry for the link! Yesterday my head was stuck on "Insomniac." Friday it was "Without You" on replay in my brain so insistently that it was almost annoying (I think this is my subconscious screaming that DR needs to sing more solos). So my "favorites" change on a daily basis!
Hi-De-Ho.
My #1 reason is #basslove. For both of those amazing bass men! But I also adore those tenor training wheels and the way everyone's voices blend.
I tend to gravitate towards the up beat songs, because I love to blast music while I'm driving... and I like to bob my head. :)
I also love Ghost Train & Insomniac. They were the first non-Christmas songs I ever heard the guys sing and actually downloaded them off the oooold myspace page forever ago. :P I don't mind these getting stuck in my head, and the arrangements are just so gorgeous!
Basically, I love all the songs. Especially the ones that I can dance around/bob my head to, and that put me in a good mood. Which would be 99.9 percent of SNC's songs.
I do love how well The Living Years is done... but it does strike me as a sad song so I don't listen to it as much.
HiDeHo is my numero uno because of great bass singing by both of them. #BASSLOVE, AND great singing by Walt and Tyler, funny antics by the other guys in it when you watch it, and the simplicity of the song.
I love Joy to the World/Jeremiah for the bass also, with cool arranging. Next would be Fix You as the whole arrangement and the singing is killer. Mike was made to sing that song and "Like a Prayer", both of which SNC does BETTER than the original artists. I love the arrangement and singing in Hey Santa and 12 Days, too. Then, it is a toss up between about 10 or 15 songs. LOL! Dang. I just can't decide!!

Where is the video of them singing with Barry Manilow? I haven't seen it! :(
Ditto @S.. Brandon and @AngieWollard : Well said. You go on ahead and preach it, my sisters!!!
Hi De Ho is what did me in when I saw them live...I hadn't heard it before, and I was just BLOWN AWAY. It had all the give-you-shivers elements that I adore in a song.
I probably said this in my previous post (too lazy to go check!) but I love a song a lot more usually after having seen the live performance of it (even if it's on YouTube) to check out the antics and showmanship, as S. Brandon said below. Then, when the song comes on my playlist again, I associate the song not only with the great musical talent but the whole performance of the song.
Wouldn't be able to pick just one, and as has been stated, different ones strike you for different reasons. Also, unlike many of you, I'm not all that often familiar with the original arrangement. The feelings that go into it are a high point....Mike in "Fix You," Jerome in "O Holy Night," Dan in "Indiana Christmas." And I agree with whoever mentioned the voices that all blend without necessarily a soloist.
I have always loved their rendition of "One Voice" (having liked it from Barry M. alone in earlier years, and SNC adds so much!), but now I will always think of the absolutely joyful faces of the guys in the video of them singing on stage with him. The "I can't believe this is happening" looks make it so cool.
Then there are the ones that are just FUN, like "Twelve Days" and "Can-Can." And the Gaga Medley, which takes us into showmanship....which takes us to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight."
Ohmygosh, I *love* Hi De Ho. So much to love about that song!!! They always kill it. It's the perfect combination of awesome talent and hilarious antics!!
Tough call, but I have to say Hi De Ho. There's just something about the blend of the voices... I could listen over and over. Who am I kidding... I do listen over and over. lol
But in all honesty I could say that about most of SNC's songs. They make is look and sound easy, but the harmonies are so rich that every time you listen you hear something you missed before.
My favorite version of BOTW by Kary!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyEZ9uWURH0
TODAY, my favorite song is BOTW. Somewhere on this site someone had a link and as usual i get lost clicking other songs (i thought i've seen them all by now) and when i came across the version filmed by Bmb3134 on 7/9/10 i was completely sold out. This is a song i have long loved and if someone would have told be they were going to remake it i'd have said no, please- not even SNC could make this song better than the original or even equal it with an update. Some of SNC's songs i have never heard anyone else do and quite frankly i don't care to either. I know what i like. When i heard SNC's makeover of BOTW i just loved it - what a testimony to the talent of who ever did the arrangement but when i saw this particular video i was even more blown away. It was so professional. The sound was excellent where i could hear the individual parts. Ryan, Mike and Rome rocked their solos better than i have ever heard them. How each of them "made it their own" was awesome! This is truly, not only one of my favorite songs, but my favorite version, video and performance of THIS song.!!! Does anyone know who did the arrangement of Bridge Over Troubled Water?
What makes a song my favorite is when it gives me goosebumps...therefore making Fix You my favorite song from With a Twist! However, I agree Dottie. I LOVE The Living Years too!
Dottie, I LOVE The Living Years as well...
It's just one of those songs that when it's over you want to hear it again, or that you wish was about 20 minutes longer because you can't get enough of it
There are so many SNC songs that I like it is hard to pick a favorite. Right now the song I pick first on my iPod is "Man Who Can't Be Moved." "Fix You" is also one of my favorites. If you couldn't guess I love Mike's voice. "Fix You" is also a favorite because some of the background part just resonate when you listen with headphones and gives me chills...the good kind. :o)
Almost all of their songs are my favorites for different reasons, but I'd have to say their theme song is my favorite because of the originality, the mix up of beats, the do-wops,the melody, the harmonies, the up-beat tempo, the clear bass notes, the dancing (on the video) and the overall representation of the talents used and gifts given to these men. I wish it were on every cd and performed at every concert!!!
Wow... yeah, on smiling overload now after watching those videos.
One of my favorites is "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" but it really has nothing to do with the music...
