Straight No Chaser Discussion

My local PBS station is showing the special this week and I noticed they have the DVD again. It's kvpt.com. Remember though, it's $85. About $65 of that is tax deductible.

Sorry I am so late in responding. I have been out of the loop for awhile.

I DID GET THE HOLIDAY DVD & IT IS FABULOUS. Well worth the time, effort & pain.

The station is NJN Public Television & Radio in New Jersey. NJN.net. Initially I sent an email to their customer service department pleading my case of NEEDING the Holiday DVD. I got a response saying that the Holiday Version was not one of their gifts for contributing at this time. BUT, they made an exception for me (how special am I?? hee hee) I must have sounded desperate. She told me in the email to phone them to place the order ($85). The phone # I have on my credit card statement is: 1-800-882-6622. You may want to email first & get a persons name to talk to when you call.

It was the KBTC Tacoma station and after many emails, the woman I have been dealing with admitted they were wrong and will send me the correct one. I am guessing, they did NOT have the Holiday one as they advertised and have had to obtain them to send to the folks who specifically asked for the Holiday Version. We "Chasers" know what we are talking about.

No need to take the blame as a fellow Washingtonian for poor service. I find it interesting, that the woman I dealt with, obviously had not checked to make sure of what they were offering, when I emailed and specifically asked if this was the Holiday Edition and not the Non Holiday Version. Yet, she was so sure of herself in telling me that I was wrong about there being 2 different DVD's when I said they mistakenly sent me the wrong one. I was going to give them the beneift of the doubt up to the point where she insulted my SNC knowledge.

BTW, kayzie, what PBS station did you find with the Holiday DVD?

OK, Kathleen, I just got my DVD from KBTC - Tacoma, WA. Mine, too, was the non-holiday version! You can bet I will be e-mailing them with photos of both DVDs, and if needed, sending them a letter requesting they send me what I asked for, or refund my donation. EPIC FAIL! =(

SheriS: Thanks for the response. I may have found a PBS station that had the Holdiay Version of the DVD. It took some searching, but we will see. Thanks for your help. kayzie

Kayzie: There were two DVD's made for PBS--one was a Christmas edition in which the last half of the DVD is Christmas. The second one is all their regular music. They are very good, but can be expensive depending on the PBS station that is selling them. They were part of two different promotions that PBS did at different times of the year and some stations are still doing them. If your local station does not have any left, then you will have to check other stations. I had to pay $85 for one and $75 for the second as I got it during one of their fund-raising campaigns. GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for all of your comments! I just received the 2 DVD's yesterday. They are just a copied version, I haven't viewed them yet. As long as they are worth watching I don't mind, I just didn't want to pay a fortune for them. I'll let you know if they are any good once I see them. Thanks again for all of your comments and concern. I just LOVE these guys, never heard of them before last weekend!

Hi: I have read all the posts about DVD's. I ordered the New York concert when it aired on KCTS Public TV in Seattle. Sorry if I am a little slow, but IS THERE A HOLIDAY DVD AVAILABLE?? I would love to have one. Like Debbie said, the audio is good, but there is nothing like watching them perform. It is too bad people have had a hard time getting one. We "chasers" never give up, do we??

Kathleen - As a Washingtonian, I feel complied to apologies :) What awful customer service! I’m not sure how this works exactly but it’s seems a little strange that they would be selling the Holiday Edition when it was the non Holiday Version they just played last week… Good luck, I hope everything works out!

I am reposting something I just put in my addiction posting as it fits your discussion. In your search for a DVD...be careful of the PBS station if you are looking for a specific one, I tried for the Holiday Edition after already havng the other one and received asecond copy of the ne I already owned.

Remember I joined a Washington State PBS station to get the Holiday Edition of the DVD? Before I joined I specifically asked if it was the Holiday and NOT the other Edition as I already have that one. I was told it was the Holiday, so I gladly sent in my pledge. Guess what DVD I received in the mail Yesterday? Yep, the non holiday version. I emailed the station to tell them their mistake and to hope they had the version that I wanted to make an exchange. They wrote back today and said they only have the Holiday Version, listed the songs on it and said I was mistaken, there is no other version?!?!!? Well, a "Chaser" knows!!!!!!. I just rewrote giving them the names of the songs on the DVD they sent me, I wanted to send a scanned photo of the unopened DVD cover, but it would not send for some reason. I am normally a very calm person, but it really angered me that when I tried politely to fix a mistake, they assumed that I was wrong. I am still hopeful that I can get my holiday DVD, but if they do not have the correct version, I asked for my money to be returned. It was not my intent to pledge to a second out of state PBS station at the price they wanted to receive a DVD I already own. GRRRRRR.
