PBS special

(20100416T205503Z )

Where can I buy a copy of the PBS special? I can't find it anywhere. Is it for sale somewhere? Why isn't it if it's not? I saw the special one night in a hotel room traveling crosscountry and called all my family right away. My family usually buys PBS specials later or from Walmart. I checked the PBS Store online. I can't make a show because we are traveling crosscountry in the opposite direction as SNC this year. Any help?

I know kvpt.org in Fresno still has them for $85 since I just ordered another one.

Well, I had a breakdown after seeing the guys last week. I HAD to have the DVD!!! (I have it on DVR, but would much rather have it sans pledge drive interruptions). My local PBS station did not have it, so I went to the "general" PBS.org site. If you check around, you can find a station that has the DVD as a thank you gift for a "price" (basically a pledge). I decided to get mine from Iowa - I have family there, and it's a little tribute to Tyler! Go to PBS.org, scroll to the bottom of the Home page and select "station finder." You can enter a zip code or select by state. Select the station, then go to their website. Do a search for Thank You Gifts, then look for SNC. Of course, the final decision depends on how badly you want it, and how much you're willing to spend! It IS available at WTTW for $85. (ha, ha - I paid a little more than this. I probably should have shopped around!)

Lauren, I read somewhere that the DVD's won't be available apart from PBS for quite some time. :-(

Yea, I'd love for Amazon to sell BOTH for a DECENT price. Sorry, but $170 for 1 dvd? That's beyond ludicrous. Maybe the store here can sell both.

Anyone in Chicago area tried calling the local PBS?

I received the email response from Atlantic Records. Quote:
    Hi chenzhongbi,

The only place to get this DVD is to purchase it through your local PBS pledge.
    Thanks

I wish they had put it all on one. That would make it something I could consider making a bigger donation for. Bigger as in, more than I could normally afford.

    S. Brandon: You are correct about the DVD's being on Amazon. I would say the only way that could happen is for someone contributed to their PBS station and decided to profit from this DVD! That is their choice, but pretty disgusting if you ask me. The DVD's are awesome. The first one came out just before Christmas and has music from last year's Christmas CD. The second is very different as it has a mix of their regular repertoire. Dearly love them both and the only way you would get mine is "over my dead body." These are both treasures to me and I plan to view them many times until they are worn out!

Actually S & chenzhongbi, something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it, supply & demand.
If both shows were on the same dvd, I'd go for it, but they're not unfortunately.

They shouldn't even be available on Amazon, should they? If they were through third party sellers, it would only because someone was trying to charge even more than they pledged to PBS for it.

In answer to the 2 different DVD for the same event one is has a holiday music portion and one does not. The only way I was aware to get these DVD's was via a pledge to the PBS station.

I was about to ask the same question. It's sold out on Amazon, nor available in the online store linked from this site. What puzzles me is that how come there are two different DVDs for the same event. Have I missed something?
I've written an email to Atlantic record. Let's see how it goes.
P.S. A seller on amazon is selling this for 169.99. What a rip-off!

what Sheri said. Check with your local or nearby PBS station.

Not sure where you are located--the only way you can buy the PBS Specials are throught a PBS station. The problem is, it is costly--I missed the viewings on my PBS station but heard about the first one on the blog about the Christmas DVD. Called my local station and they were happy to send it to me for $85. That was the cost for membership and the DVD. The next pledge drive, the fee was $75. Now part of that, I believe $50 is tax deductible. PBS used this as a giveaway during their pledge drives. If you want it, call the local PBS station in your area and see if there are any left! That is the only place that has them as it was made by SNC for PBS. Give it a try but don't be shocked at the price you will have to pay. Both the DVD's are really good--there are some duplications of songs but they are very different! GOOD LUCK!

I would love to buy a copy too and can't find it anywhere. SNC how bout it?
