I need summer song ideas to get me more in the mood for the warm weahter! I was adding and deleting songs from my itunes and I was thinking what are some good songs that are perfect for the summer mood? Don't worry, I didn't delete ANY Straight No Chaser! I couldn't think of it! I am no where near a beach or ocean, but I have the best mountains to play in!

Lauren: You mentioned CDbaby--are you aware Dan Ponce and Mike Luginbill each have at least one album on CDbaby!

HOLY CRAP!!! Check out Herbie Hancock's latest, mind blowing cd..absolutely amazing. It's called The Imagine Project.

Check out Kid Rock's "Summertime". You can't get it through itunes but it's a great song. Every once in a while, it's good to change up what's on the ipod.

U2, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, SNC, Josh Groban, Zachary Provost, Corrinne May, The Bloody Lovelies (weird name for a band I know), Barenaked Ladies of course, Michael Buble, Bon Jovi, Dixie Chicks, Paul Simon/Simon and Garfunkel, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Indigo Girls, Sheryl Crow, . I also love to find the musicians that are indie musicians and don't have the backing of a huge record deal. Check out cdbaby.com :)

Wow! It's been fun reading all your comments! By the way, when did summer get here? I feel like it was just yesterday that I was at the very first show of the SNC tour! April 5th! Thanks for all the suggestions! Kenny Chesney and the Beach Boys have many summery songs and now I am in the mood for sunscreen and pina coladas or margaritas, flip flop tans and some white sand! Haha! Like my Rascal Flatts quote!?

Oops, thought of one more. What's that one that goes "summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime"?

Also, "Summer Magic" from the Disney movie.

  • (20100608T161250Z )

Absolutely the Beach Boys! And "In My Room" I think of as a peaceful summer evening (dare I say twilight?) kind of song. So gorgeous!

Other songs that come to mind:

Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
Summer in the City - Lovin' Spoonful
    Wipeout - The Surfaris
Dancing in the Streets - Martha and the Vandellas
    Summer Nights - Grease
    Summer Vacation - The Party
Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters

I like the fact that you alphebetized by song title! Do you think you could categorize by artist now so they are easier to find on itunes..... :o)

    Seriously, great list! Thanks!

Amazingness, Sarah. I love your list!

    haha, Sarah.
And by the way.. I LOVE Mr. Blue Sky! :D
And Sweet Home Alabama. I also love the movie with Reese Whitherspoon. ^__^

I know that this is a long-ish list, but I was having trouble sleeping and enjoyed listening to the songs while looking through my iPod...
I tend to like stuff that I can rock out to in my car, or while lounging in the backyard, or songs that I equate with summer memories:

"Ain't Nothing Wrong With That" by Robert Randolph & The Family Band
    "AM Radio" by Everclear
"Angel of Harlem" by U2 (this song always makes me want to drive out with my sun roof open...)
    "Ballroom Blitz" by Sweet
"Canned Heat" & "Cosmic Girl" by Jamiroquai
    "Coconut" by Harry Nilsson
"Dancing In The Moonlight" by King Harvest
"Free Ride" by The Edgar Winter Group (I prefer the cover by Audio Adrenaline)
    "Heaven" by Los Lonely Boys
"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers
"I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5 (lots of summer memories with this one for me)
"Jack and Diane" by John Cougar Mellencamp
    "Jessica" by Allman Brothers Band
"Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield
    "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO
"Once In A Lifetime" by the Talking Heads
"Open Skies" by David Crowder Band
"Pocketful of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield
"The Power of Love" by Huey Lewis & The News
"Pride (In The Name of Love)" by U2 (pretty much my all-time favorite song ever)
"Put Your Records On" by Corinne Bailey Rae
"So Much Love" by The Rocket Summer
    "Summertime" by Kenny Chesney
    "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond
"Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd
"Vacation" by The Go-Go's (or, really, anything by The Go-Go's)

:) I'd probably have a lot more listed if my eyelids weren't getting heavy...

OH, and along the lines of The Beach Boys --> Jan and Dean

I LOVE In My Room!!!! But you're right, it's not very peppy! Beach Boys have awesome summer songs!!!!

Beach Boys!! Almost anything, but peppier is better (not "In My Room"). Good Vibrations, Help Me, Rhonda, Sloop John B, Fun, Fun, Fun....any of those ought to get you moving.

    ("Tunage?") ;-)

    Here's a few thought starters:

    "Boys of Summer" (Don Henley)
    "Afternoon Delight" (Starland Vocal Band)
"All I Wanna Do Is Have Some Fun" (Sheryl Crowe)
    "Centerfield" (John Fogerty)
"Up On The Roof" (I prefer SNC's version, but there are others out there)

    Have fun!
