Hobbies
vintage and antique stuff, love quaint little towns and great shops with unusual things; love exploring great architecture, historical sites and anything from the roaring '20s, some theology, local politics, follow opera once in a while, travel, anything culinary
Musical Influences
Anything from Spyro Gyra to the Marsalis brothers (contemporary jazz); Pavarotti; and Domingo -- legendary voices; anything fresh and far-reaching (I still get all misty when I watch Paul Potts clips from BGT); love great harmony (can you tell?) from Seal to Manhattan Transfer; Mormon Tabernacle Choir - heard vinyls since youth; Swing: Ellington, Satchmo'; enduring things with lots of brass and saxophone (hope eight-to-the-bar makes it back strong someday); Mario Lanza (misty, again); Diana Krall - sassy, deep, nonchalant (can do her range); had my eyes opened to all I could find about opera voice parts and the like (by a Spinto); and (from a NJ native): just say NO to Springsteen!
Favorite Place You?ve Traveled
Love Florida, the Keys, Caribbean, Bermuda (all places sandy, blue and balmy); dreaming of NOLA and SoCal, then Paris and Warsaw someday, too (the roots thing)
Favorite Things in General
coffee-holic; cultural events; people with vision and passion; people who make their own way in their own time, iconoclasts; performing arts and exhibits; dance (no ballet, anything displaying talent and agility), Broadway shows, Gregory Hines, historical architecture and places with a huge past. Inspiration from people or places teaches me more now than I ever learned in school. That's why I feel arts curriculums should be expanded, especially in grammar schools. Arts are fuel for inspiration in good times and especially in hard times. Performing arts and theater get you away from it and refresh the spirit.
